Hi! My name is Sarah Johnson, and I've been teaching at Holy Cross for going on four years now. You can find me with the twos in Preschool Prep as lead teacher as well as part of the afternoon crew. I also designed and maintain the Holy Cross Lutheran Academy website and Facebook page. I received my Early Childhood Education at Sierra College and am currently working for my B.A. in Elementary Education and B.S. in Business. When I'm not teaching, I love playing with my rescue dog Olive, vacationing somewhere by the beach or mountains, working in the garden, finding new places to eat, trying new foods at Trader Joe's, visiting my parents and family in Idaho, thinking of new ways to design my home, or working on creative projects. I love to create crafts for my classroom, such a giant paper flowers or construction paper creations.
I absolutely love working with little ones, and believe in teaching and nurturing the whole child: body, spirit, and mind. My goal is to make each child's first away-from-mom/dad experience as comfortable and fun as possible. I believe social-emotional and fine and gross motor skill development is just as important as academics. In the preschool prep room you can guarantee there will never be a shortage of art, science, or sensory experiences!
Some of my favorite classroom activities include teaching about life cycles in spring when we get to watch caterpillars transform into butterflies, going on nature walks to catch lady bugs and pick wild flowers, making cookies and other treats during the Christmas season, planting the school garden with the children in spring, teaching about emotions, and getting our hands dirty in shaving cream and paint.
