Our pre-kindergarten (pre-K) program at Holy Cross Lutheran Academy in Rocklin, CA focuses on kindergarten readiness, with an emphasis on meeting the individual needs and learning styles of each child. Children are provided with a variety of experiences to explore, engage in small and large groups, participate in teacher-led and self-directed activities, and engage in both indoor and outdoor play.
Teachers plan developmentally appropriate activities in an engaging and supportive environment that provide children with daily opportunities to practice academic, fine and gross motor, social, and important life skills. Our goal is to generate excitement for learning while fostering an attitude of belief in self for solving problems, thinking critically, completing tasks, and communicating needs to peers and adults.
Carefully selected curriculum and assessments ensure that children receive quality, standards-based instruction. Examples include Core Knowledge Language Arts, Zoo Phonics, Handwriting Without Tears, and EngageNY Math for Pre-K. For more information on preschool standards, please read California Preschool Learning Foundations. You may also read about the Core Knowledge Preschool Sequence.
Is Pre-Kindergarten Right for Your Child?
Our pre-kindergarten program provides a quality program that builds self-confidence, social-emotional skills, and critical thinking skills that will prepare them for success in kindergarten. With a 1:12 ratio of teachers to students, we are able to provide a supportive environment that includes differentiated instruction and addresses the learning style of each child. Our program, curriculum, and assessments are standards-based to ensure quality and student success.
Kindergarten programs have come to include more academic content, meaning that children must be prepared in advance with the pre-academic foundations. Studies have confirmed that children who attend a quality preschool do better in school.
Given what we now know about brain development in early childhood, The Pew Charitable Trusts has concluded that "Pre-K has become just as necessary as kindergarten or first grade." With a commitment to meeting high standards for a quality pre-K program, parents can be confident that our program is built on developmentally appropriate expectations, activities and curriculum, and assessments that coupled with sound teaching practices help build a strong foundation for school readiness and future success.
Pre-K at Holy Cross Lutheran Academy
As Proverbs 22:6 says, "Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it." Our loving Christian atmosphere gives children a foundation in Biblical values as well as academics. From 8:45 a.m. until noon, our pre-K children are engaged in a variety of different learning environments from small and large groups to self-directed activities.
Before-school and after-school care are also available, but pre-kindergarten is more than just childcare. Our teachers follow the Core Knowledge Preschool Sequence, and our curriculum includes the content areas and learning objectives established by the California Department of Education. With age-appropriate programs through kindergarten, the staff at Holy Cross Lutheran Academy is equipped to prepare your child for success in school.
